What is choice based lettings?
The Homefinder Choice Based Lettings (CBL) service advertises vacancies to rent in council and housing association properties in Luton. It's been operating since 2010. We maintain a housing register of people seeking housing in the local area.
To apply for social housing you need to contact the council directly.
When you apply to be housed through the scheme, we'll assess your application for housing in accordance with our allocations scheme. Not everyone who applies will be accepted onto the housing register as you need to meet the council’s eligibility criteria. In addition, there's a limited supply of social housing in Luton, which means most people who join the register won’t receive an offer of housing. You should therefore also consider other housing options in order to meet your household’s housing needs.
If you're accepted onto the council’s housing register, you'll be sent login details for the CBL service and told what type and size of property you are eligible to bid for. When you place a bid, your position on the bidding list will depend on your priority for housing and how long you've been on the register. For more information on how to bid, see leaflet how to bid.
For more information about how to use the scheme, go to user guides where you will find more information about how to use the service.
